Community Torah Dedicated in Memory of Mark Briskin obm
The 613th and final mitzvah in the Torah is that every Jew writes his own Sefer Torah. Our Rabbis have taught that one can fulfill this mitzvah by dedicating a portion or even one letter in a Torah.
The Torah: The foundation of faith and the bedrock of civilisation. 304,805 letters individually scribed onto parchment. The most precious entity on earth and the basis of a community.
The Community: Moorabbin Hebrew Congregation serves the fastest growing region of Jews in Victoria. Our congregation is constantly growing and reaching out to the wider community. A new Torah will ensure our continuity and future.
Mark Briskin was a man who lived for others and cared deeply about Jewish continuity. He made it his life’s mission to reach out to and befriend all. He was taken from us too young, leaving behind his wife, two beautiful children, a loving family and a treasure of good memories and irrepressible humour.
Mark’s family, friends, colleagues and congregation will commemorate his memory by commissioning the Mark Briskin Community Torah in his name and honour.
Contributions of $360 or more will be featured in the commemorative booklet given out on the day.
Contributions of $1000 or more will be featured on a dedicated honour board in the Synogogue.
Have the Sofer write a portion or a letter in the Torah just for you! Both children and adults will be given an opportunity to participate in this mitzvah. You will receive a card telling you in which portion of the Torah your letter has been inscribed.
